Description

Air Fryer Churro Bites with Chocolate Sauce are miniature, bite-sized versions of traditional churros. The key difference is that these churro bites are cooked in an air fryer, giving them that crispy golden exterior, but with less oil. The dough is made from a simple mixture of water, butter, sugar, salt, and flour, which is piped into small pieces and air-fried to perfection. The result? A light, airy churro with the perfect balance of crispy edges and soft insides.

Ingredients

Scale

For the churro bites:

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 large egg

  • Nonstick cooking spray or a little oil (for air fryer basket)

For the cinnamon sugar coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp melted butter

For the chocolate dipping sauce:

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Make the churro dough:

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil.

  2. Reduce heat to low and add the flour all at once, stirring constantly until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides (about 1 minute).

  3. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.

  4. Stir in vanilla, then beat in the egg until smooth and glossy (it will look sticky — that’s perfect).

2. Shape the churro bites:

  1. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.

  2. Pipe 1–2 inch pieces onto a parchment-lined tray.

  3. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil or nonstick spray.

  4. Place churro pieces in the basket in a single layer (don’t overcrowd).

3. Air fry:

  • Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

4. Coat with cinnamon sugar:

  1. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

  2. Brush warm churros lightly with melted butter, then toss in cinnamon sugar until coated.

5. Make the chocolate sauce:

  1. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan or microwave until hot but not boiling.

  2. Pour over chocolate chips, wait 1 minute, then stir until smooth.

  3. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt.

Notes

These air fryer churro bites taste best when served warm with a drizzle of rich chocolate sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. For extra flavor, try dusting them with cinnamon sugar right after air frying!
