- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Add additional flour, a little at a time, until the dough is soft and slightly sticky but not too wet.
2. Knead the Dough
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
3. Make the Apple Cinnamon Filling
- In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated. Set aside.
4. Assemble the Bread
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
- On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Pinch the seams to seal and place the log seam-side down.
5. Shape the Bread
- Gently twist the log a few times to create a swirl effect.
- Place the twisted log into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- Cover the pan with a towel and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes, until it has puffed up.
6. Bake the Bread
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- If the top browns too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil during the last few minutes of baking.
7. Cool and Glaze (Optional)
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread before slicing.
Notes
