Apple Crisp Mini Skillets – A Cozy Winter Dessert for Any Occasion

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 mini skillets 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Apple Crisp Mini Skillets are individual servings of the classic apple crisp dessert, but with a twist: they’re baked in mini cast-iron skillets or ramekins. The base of the dessert is made from diced apples, tossed in a cinnamon-sugar mixture and baked until tender. This is then topped with a crumbly oat mixture that turns golden and crispy as it bakes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the apple filling:

  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled & diced

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)

For the crisp topping:

  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Optional toppings:

  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

  • Caramel sauce or maple drizzle

  • Chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

1. Preheat & prepare skillets:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Lightly butter or spray 4–6 mini cast-iron skillets (6-inch) or ramekins.

2. Make the apple filling:

  1. In a mixing bowl, toss apples, melted butter, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, and flour until evenly coated.

  2. Spoon evenly into each skillet.

3. Make the crisp topping:

  1. In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

  2. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

  3. Sprinkle evenly over the apple mixture.

4. Bake:

  • Place skillets on a baking sheet (to catch any bubbling).

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples are tender and bubbly around the edges.

5. Serve warm:

Top each mini skillet with:

  • A scoop of vanilla ice cream,

  • A drizzle of caramel sauce, and

  • A sprinkle of toasted nuts for crunch.

Serve right in the skillet (careful — they’ll be hot and sizzling!).

Notes

These apple crisp mini skillets are perfect for cozy, individual desserts! Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for a comforting fall treat.
