Description
Apple Crisp Mini Skillets are individual servings of the classic apple crisp dessert, but with a twist: they’re baked in mini cast-iron skillets or ramekins. The base of the dessert is made from diced apples, tossed in a cinnamon-sugar mixture and baked until tender. This is then topped with a crumbly oat mixture that turns golden and crispy as it bakes.
Ingredients
For the apple filling:
4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled & diced
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)
For the crisp topping:
½ cup old-fashioned oats
½ cup all-purpose flour
⅓ cup brown sugar
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp cinnamon
6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Optional toppings:
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
Caramel sauce or maple drizzle
Chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
1. Preheat & prepare skillets:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Lightly butter or spray 4–6 mini cast-iron skillets (6-inch) or ramekins.
2. Make the apple filling:
In a mixing bowl, toss apples, melted butter, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, and flour until evenly coated.
Spoon evenly into each skillet.
3. Make the crisp topping:
In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle evenly over the apple mixture.
4. Bake:
Place skillets on a baking sheet (to catch any bubbling).
Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples are tender and bubbly around the edges.
5. Serve warm:
Top each mini skillet with:
A scoop of vanilla ice cream,
A drizzle of caramel sauce, and
A sprinkle of toasted nuts for crunch.
Serve right in the skillet (careful — they’ll be hot and sizzling!).
