Description
Apple Crumble Pie is a dessert that consists of a flaky pie crust filled with spiced apples and topped with a crunchy, sweet crumble topping. It’s a combination of two beloved dessert styles: apple pie and crumble. The traditional apple pie filling is given a twist by replacing the typical pie top with a sweet, buttery crumble. The result is a unique yet delicious treat that’s both sweet and slightly tart, with a perfect balance of textures.

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Crumble Topping:
- 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour

- 1/3 cup (65g) brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Optional: 1/3 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the Pie Crust:
- Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Trim and crimp the edges as desired.
- Place the pie crust in the fridge while preparing the filling and topping.
3. Make the Apple Filling:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.
- In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Mix well to coat evenly.
- Let the apples sit for 5-10 minutes to release their juices.
4. Prepare the Crumble Topping:
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cold cubed butter.
- Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- If desired, stir in chopped nuts for added texture.
5. Assemble the Pie:
- Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the apples.
6. Bake:
- Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil or a pie shield halfway through baking.
7. Cool and Serve:
- Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm or at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
