Description
Banana-Cheese Mousse is a creamy dessert that brings together the natural sweetness of ripe bananas with the smooth texture of cream cheese or mascarpone. The mousse is light and fluffy, thanks to the whipped cream, which balances the richness of the cheese. The result is a delicate dessert that’s not overly sweet but instead has a complex flavor profile, with a hint of tang from the cheese and a warm spice from cinnamon.
Ingredients
-
2 ripe bananas (the riper, the better for sweetness!)
-
100g cream cheese (you can also use mascarpone for a richer texture)
-
1/2 cup heavy cream (chilled)
-
2 tbsp honey (or maple syrup for a different sweetness)
-
1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional but adds a lovely spice)
-
A pinch of salt
-
1 tbsp lemon juice (to balance the sweetness)
-
Crumbled graham crackers or nuts for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Start by peeling the bananas. The riper the bananas, the better, as they will be sweeter and provide a smoother texture for your mousse. Place the peeled bananas into a blender or food processor and blend them until they’re completely smooth and creamy. Set the banana puree aside for later use.
In a separate bowl, take the cream cheese (or mascarpone) and beat it until it becomes soft and smooth. This step ensures that the cheese will blend well with the other ingredients and create a silky texture for the mousse.
Next, in another bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks. This will add the mousse-like texture to the dessert, making it light and airy.
Now it’s time to bring everything together! Add the smooth banana puree to the whipped cream cheese and mix until the two ingredients are fully incorporated. Then, gently fold in the whipped cream to maintain the light, airy texture of the mousse.
To enhance the flavor, stir in honey (or maple syrup), lemon juice, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. The honey or maple syrup will add just the right amount of sweetness, while the cinnamon will add a hint of warmth and spice. The lemon juice helps to balance the sweetness and gives the mousse a slight tang.
Once everything is mixed together, spoon the mousse mixture into serving glasses or bowls. Place the glasses in the refrigerator and allow the mousse to chill for at least two hours. Chilling helps the mousse set and gives it that perfect, creamy texture.
Before serving, feel free to garnish the mousse with crumbled graham crackers, toasted nuts, or a drizzle of honey. You can also sprinkle some extra cinnamon on top for an added touch of flavor and visual appeal.
Notes
For an extra touch of indulgence, top your mousse with a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of crushed nuts, or shaved dark chocolate. Chill it well before serving to enhance the flavors and get that perfect creamy texture. Enjoy as a refreshing dessert after a light meal!
