Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, ground cardamom, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
2. Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
3. Make the Almond Filling:
- In a bowl, mix the almond paste, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
4. Shape the Buns:
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
- Spread the almond filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log.
- Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
5. Second Rise:
- Place the cut buns in a greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
6. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
7. Bake:
- Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
8. Cool and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
For an extra indulgent touch, brush the warm buns with a cardamom sugar syrup right after baking, and sprinkle with sliced almonds or pearl sugar for added texture and sweetness
