Description

Cardamom & Orange Blossom Rice Pudding is a flavorful and aromatic variation of the classic rice pudding. The unique combination of cardamom and orange blossom water brings a sweet, warm, and slightly spicy flavor to the dish, making it a perfect choice for special occasions or just a treat to enjoy at home. This pudding is often served chilled or at room temperature, making it versatile for different seasons. The rice is slow-cooked in whole milk or coconut milk, allowing the grains to absorb all the aromatic flavors, creating a creamy texture with every spoonful.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup short-grain rice (e.g., Arborio or glutinous rice)
  • 4 cups whole milk (or coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • ¾ cup sugar (or honey for a nourishing twist)
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1–2 tsp orange blossom water (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (optional, for richness)
  • Optional toppings: golden raisins, chopped pistachios, shredded coconut, dried rose petals

Instructions

  • Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents clumping.
  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine rice, milk, sugar, cardamom, orange zest, and salt.
  • Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 25–30 minutes, stirring frequently until the rice is tender and the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in vanilla extract, orange blossom water, and butter (if using). Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let it sit for 5 minutes—it will continue to thicken.
  • Spoon into serving bowls. Garnish with your choice of toppings.

Notes

This fragrant rice pudding is perfect for serving warm or chilled. For extra indulgence, top it with a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of crushed pistachios, or a few edible rose petals for a Middle Eastern touch. It also pairs beautifully with fresh berries or a cup of mint tea.
