  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¾ tsp kosher salt

  • 3 tbsp fresh chives, minced
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  • Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in cheddar cheese and chives until evenly distributed.
  • Pour in buttermilk and mix just until moistened.
  • Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 8-10 times.
  • Pat or roll dough to ¾-inch thickness and cut with a 2 ½-inch biscuit cutter.
  • Place biscuits 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, make sure your butter and buttermilk are very cold! Don’t overwork the dough for the best texture.
