Description
A Cheese Dream is essentially an elevated version of a classic grilled cheese sandwich. The concept is simple: buttered bread, a generous helping of cheese, and a crispy golden crust. However, the beauty of Cheese Dreams lies in their versatility. With the addition of various optional ingredients, you can customize your sandwich to your taste, whether you prefer it spicy, savory, or even sweet.
Ingredients
Basic Ingredients:
-
2 slices of bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or your choice)
-
2 tbsp butter, softened
-
2 slices of cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or Swiss)
-
1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional for a tangy twist)
-
1 tsp garlic powder (optional for an extra savory kick)
-
Fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary (optional)
Optional Add-ins:
-
Sliced tomatoes
-
Bacon strips
-
Caramelized onions
-
Avocado slices
-
Hot sauce (if you like a little heat!)
Instructions
Start by spreading butter on one side of each slice of bread. If you want extra flavor, consider sprinkling a little garlic powder on the buttered side. This will give the bread a subtle savory kick and enhance the overall taste of the sandwich.
On the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, layer your cheese slices. You can opt for a classic cheddar or experiment with other cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or Swiss. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is the point where you can add optional ingredients like sliced tomatoes, crispy bacon, or caramelized onions. Once your fillings are in place, top the sandwich with the other slice of bread, ensuring the buttered side is facing outward.
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the assembled sandwich in the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt. Flip the sandwich and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes. The goal is to have both sides crispy and golden brown while the cheese inside becomes deliciously gooey.
Once both sides of the sandwich are perfectly crispy, remove it from the skillet and let it sit for a minute to prevent the cheese from burning your mouth. Cut the sandwich diagonally for that perfect “dreamy” look and enjoy!
Notes
Cheese Dreams are best enjoyed fresh and warm, when the cheese is perfectly melty and the bread is golden crisp. Customize with your favorite toppings or dips for an extra touch of deliciousness. Happy cooking!
