Chocolate Rum Balls Recipe – The Ultimate No-Bake Boozy Treat

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 20 minutes (plus chilling time, if needed)
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

At their core, Chocolate Rum Balls are no-bake confections made from crushed cookies (usually vanilla wafers), cocoa powder, sweeteners, nuts, and of course, rum. These ingredients are mixed to form a dough-like texture, rolled into balls, then coated in your topping of choice—think powdered sugar, cocoa powder, sprinkles, or chopped nuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3¼ cups crushed vanilla wafers
  • ¾ cup confectioners’ sugar (plus more for rolling)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ cups chopped walnuts (optional for crunch)
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup or honey
  • ½ cup dark or spiced rum

Instructions

  • Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine crushed vanilla wafers, confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, and chopped walnuts.
  • Add wet ingredients: Stir in the corn syrup (or honey) and rum. Mix until the dough is moist and holds together.
  • Shape: Roll into 1-inch balls using your hands.
  • Coat: Roll each ball in your choice of coating (powdered sugar is classic).
  • Chill: Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2–3 days to let the flavors develop.

Notes

For added flair, roll the rum balls in cocoa powder, shredded coconut, crushed nuts, or festive sprinkles. You can also chill them overnight to let the flavors deepen, making them perfect for holiday gifting or special occasions.
