Description
Cinnamon rolls themselves have a long history dating back to ancient times, but the modern version we know today has Scandinavian roots. The origin of the muffin, however, is much more distinctly American. By combining the two beloved treats, the Cinnamon Roll Muffin offers a perfect fusion of rich, sweet flavors with the ease and convenience of a muffin. This delicious hybrid has gained popularity in recent years, especially for those who want the indulgent experience of cinnamon rolls without the hassle.
Ingredients
For the Muffins:
-
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
2 tsp baking powder
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1/2 cup milk (whole, 2%, or almond milk)
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1 large egg
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Cinnamon Filling:
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
-
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
-
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
For the Glaze:
-
1/4 cup powdered sugar
-
2 tbsp milk
-
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven:
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease each cup.
-
-
Make the Muffin Batter:
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
-
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix—it’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy.
-
-
Make the Cinnamon Filling:
-
In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth. Set aside.
-
-
Assemble the Muffins:
-
Spoon about 1 tablespoon of muffin batter into each muffin cup.
-
Add a teaspoon of the cinnamon filling on top of the batter.
-
Top with another tablespoon of muffin batter to cover the cinnamon filling. Swirl the filling gently with a toothpick or skewer to create a marbled effect.
-
-
Bake the Muffins:
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Let the muffins cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
-
Make the Glaze:
-
In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
-
Drizzle the glaze over the cooled muffins.
