Description
Crepes are thin, delicate pancakes that originated in France and are typically enjoyed as both a sweet and savory dish. When paired with Nutella, a popular chocolate-hazelnut spread, and topped with fresh fruits like strawberries, bananas, or blueberries, crepes become an irresistible dessert or breakfast treat. Nutella’s creamy texture and rich flavor perfectly complement the lightness of the crepes, while fresh fruit adds a burst of sweetness and color.
Ingredients
For the Crepes:
-
1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
-
2 large eggs
-
1 1/2 cups (360ml) milk
-
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for greasing the pan)
-
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional, for sweetness)
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
For the Filling:
-
Nutella (as much as you like!)
For the Toppings:
-
Fresh fruit (such as strawberries, bananas, blueberries, raspberries)
-
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
-
Whipped cream
-
Chocolate syrup
-
Chopped nuts or shredded coconut (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crepe Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar (if using), and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract (if using).
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth and lump-free. (Alternatively, blend the ingredients in a blender for a super smooth batter.)
- Let the batter rest for 20-30 minutes at room temperature. This helps the gluten relax and results in tender crepes.
2. Cook the Crepes:
- Heat a non-stick skillet or crepe pan over medium heat. Lightly grease the pan with a small amount of butter.
- Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into the pan, swirling it around to coat the bottom evenly in a thin layer.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the edges start to lift and the bottom is golden brown.
- Flip the crepe carefully using a spatula and cook the other side for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining batter, stacking the crepes with parchment paper in between to prevent sticking.
3. Assemble the Crepes:
- Spread a generous amount of Nutella over one side of each crepe.
- Add slices of fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, etc.) on top of the Nutella.
4. Fold or Roll the Crepes:
- Fold the crepes into quarters or roll them up around the filling, depending on your preference.
5. Serve and Garnish:
- Dust the crepes with powdered sugar and add your favorite toppings like whipped cream, extra fruit, chocolate syrup, or nuts.
Notes
Top with a dusting of powdered sugar, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of melted chocolate for an extra indulgent touch. Perfect for brunch, dessert, or a sweet snack!
