Description
A soft, airy, and buttery loaf that’s perfect for breakfast. This homemade bread is simple to make, uses basic ingredients, and delivers bakery-quality results right from your oven. Enjoy it warm with butter, jam, or your favorite breakfast toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups bread flour (plus extra for kneading)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Activate yeast—In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough—In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add melted butter and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead—Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise—Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape—Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it into a greased loaf pan.
- Second rise—Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until the dough reaches just above the pan rim.
- Bake—Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool—Remove from pan, place on a wire rack, and cool completely before slicing.
Notes
For extra softness, brush the top of the bread with melted butter right after baking. To store, wrap in foil or keep in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 2 months.
