The Ultimate Fudgy Chocolate Dump Cake (Easy One-Bowl Dessert!)

Description

The Fudgy Chocolate Dump Cake is a one-pan dessert that takes its name from the way it’s made—simply “dumping” the ingredients into a baking dish. No mixing, no beating, just layering. The cake consists of a chocolate cake mix, instant pudding mix, milk, butter, and chocolate chips. As it bakes, the layers meld together into a fudgy, gooey, and soft chocolate cake that’s rich, warm, and irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz) — You can choose any chocolate cake mix, but for a richer taste, opt for Devil’s Food or dark chocolate cake mix.

  • 1 box (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix — This adds to the fudgy texture of the cake.

  • 2 cups whole milk — You can substitute this with almond milk or another plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted — This adds richness and moisture to the cake.

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chunks) — These give the cake its gooey chocolate pockets.

  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans — Add these for a crunchy texture and a nutty flavor.

  • Optional toppings: Whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or chocolate sauce.

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure that the cake bakes evenly and achieves that perfect fudgy texture.

2. Grease the Baking Dish

Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. This will prevent the cake from sticking to the dish as it bakes.

3. Add the Cake Mix

Pour the dry chocolate cake mix into the prepared baking dish. Spread it out evenly using a spatula or your hands.

4. Sprinkle the Pudding Mix

Next, sprinkle the dry chocolate pudding mix over the cake mix. The pudding mix will melt into the cake batter as it bakes, creating a moist, fudgy interior.

5. Pour the Milk

Pour the whole milk evenly over the dry ingredients. You don’t need to stir anything—just let the milk sit on top. As the cake bakes, the milk will blend with the dry ingredients, forming the fudgy texture.

6. Drizzle the Melted Butter

Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top of the milk and pudding mixture. The butter will add moisture and richness to the cake.

7. Add the Chocolate Chips (and Nuts)

Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chunks) over the top. If you’re adding chopped walnuts or pecans, sprinkle those on top as well for a delightful crunch.

8. DO NOT Stir

It’s very important not to stir the ingredients. Stirring will disrupt the layers and prevent the magic from happening. The ingredients will bake into a gooey, fudgy, chocolatey cake.

9. Bake the Cake

Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is set and the edges are bubbly. The cake should be slightly cracked on top and look firm but moist when finished.

10. Cool Slightly Before Serving

Allow the cake to cool slightly before serving. It’s best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

Notes

Pro Tip: For an extra touch of indulgence, serve your fudgy chocolate dump cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. You can also sprinkle some chopped nuts or drizzle melted chocolate on top for added texture and flavor. Enjoy this easy, decadent dessert at your next family gathering or special occasion!
