- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120g) shredded sweetened coconut, toasted
- 1 cup (120g) chopped pecans, toasted
- 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
1. Bake the cake:
- Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to package instructions in a 9×13-inch (23x33cm) baking dish.
- Once baked, let the cake cool for about 10 minutes.
2. Poke the cake:
- Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a fork, poke holes all over the cake (about 1 inch apart).
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, letting it soak into the holes.
- Next, pour the caramel sauce evenly over the cake. Spread it gently with a spatula if needed.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
3. Prepare the whipped cream:
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream evenly over the chilled cake.
4. Add the toppings:
- Sprinkle the toasted coconut and pecans evenly over the whipped cream layer.
- If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips on top for extra chocolate flavor.
