Description

Red Velvet Swirl Banana Bread is a creative take on the traditional banana bread recipe. It brings together the sweet, soft texture of ripe bananas with the rich flavor of cocoa powder, and a beautiful swirl of red velvet to make every bite a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds. The addition of the cream cheese swirl brings an indulgent richness, making it a perfect treat for special occasions, brunch, or even just a casual snack.

Ingredients

Scale

For the banana batter:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • â…“ cup melted butter (or neutral oil)

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the red velvet swirl:

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1–2 tbsp buttermilk (or milk + ½ tsp vinegar)

  • ½ tsp red food coloring (adjust for intensity)

Optional (for richness):

  • ½ cup chocolate chips or chunks

  • Cream cheese swirl: 3 oz softened cream cheese + 1 tbsp sugar (mix together)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. Mix dry ingredients:
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Mix wet ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine mashed bananas, sugars, melted butter, egg, and vanilla until smooth.

  4. Combine wet & dry:
Stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined (don’t overmix).

  5. Make red velvet swirl batter:
Scoop out about 1 cup of the banana batter into a separate bowl.
Add cocoa powder, buttermilk, and red food coloring. Mix until smooth.

  6. Layer and swirl:
Pour half of the plain banana batter into the loaf pan.
Spoon some of the red velvet batter on top.
Alternate layers, then use a knife to gently swirl the two batters together.

(Optional: add dollops of cream cheese mixture for a cheesecake-like swirl.)

  7. Bake:
Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. Cool:
Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

This stunning banana bread is as beautiful as it is delicious — the rich red velvet swirl adds a festive touch to a classic favorite. Enjoy it warm with a pat of butter or a drizzle of cream cheese glaze for an indulgent treat any time of day.
