Description

The Orange Creamsicle Cake is a nostalgic dessert inspired by the classic creamsicle ice cream bars you enjoyed as a child. It’s a moist orange-flavored cake infused with orange gelatin and topped with a luscious creamsicle frosting made of cream cheese and whipped topping. The key feature is the infusion of orange Jell‑O into the warm cake, creating pockets of flavor that burst with citrusy goodness in every bite. This Orange Creamsicle Cake is perfect for summer gatherings, birthday parties, and any time you crave a refreshing dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box orange cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 box (3 oz) orange Jell-O gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water

For the Creamsicle Frosting:

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
  • Optional: Zest of 1 orange for extra flavor

Instructions

1. Bake the Cake

  1. Preheat oven and prepare cake mix according to package directions in a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Bake as directed. Let cool for about 15 minutes.

2. Add the Orange Jell-O

  1. While cake is still warm, poke holes all over the cake with a fork or the handle of a wooden spoon.
  2. In a bowl, dissolve the orange Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water. Stir in 1/2 cup cold water.
  3. Slowly pour the Jell-O mixture evenly over the cake, letting it soak into the holes.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, until fully chilled.

3. Make the Creamsicle Frosting

  1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. Fold in the whipped topping (and orange zest, if using) until smooth and creamy.

4. Frost the Cake

  1. Spread the frosting evenly over the chilled cake.
  2. Garnish with extra orange zest or slices, if desired.

5. Serve

  • Slice and enjoy! Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

Notes

For an extra burst of citrus flavor, try adding a bit of fresh orange zest to the frosting or cake batter. Garnish with whipped cream, orange slices, or a light dusting of powdered sugar for a beautiful finishing touch. Chill before serving for the ultimate creamsicle experience!
