Description

At its core, the Strawberry Matcha Crinkle Cookies recipe is a fusion of Japanese-inspired tea flavors and traditional American cookie techniques. The cookie base is infused with high-quality green tea powder, providing an earthy, slightly bitter undertone that acts as the perfect canvas. Into this earthy base, we fold fresh strawberry puree, which introduces a natural sweetness and a subtle acidity that brightens the entire palate.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp matcha powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup (150 g) sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 23 tbsp strawberry puree (or finely mashed fresh strawberries)

For Coating

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

1️⃣ Mix Dough

  1. Whisk flour, matcha, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

  2. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in egg and vanilla.

  4. Mix in strawberry puree.

  5. Gradually add dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.

2️⃣ Chill

Cover and chill dough for 30 minutes (this helps create the crinkle effect).

3️⃣ Shape

  1. Scoop 1-tbsp portions and roll into balls.

  2. Roll first in granulated sugar, then generously in powdered sugar.

4️⃣ Bake

Bake at 180 °C (350 °F) for 10–12 minutes until edges are set and tops are cracked.

5️⃣ Cool

Let cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
