Spicy Honey Garlic Salmon Fillets — The Perfect Balance of Sweet, Savory, and a Little Heat!

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Spicy Honey Garlic Salmon Fillets are salmon fillets coated in a flavorful glaze made from honey, garlic, soy sauce, sriracha, and a few optional ingredients like chili flakes and ginger. The salmon is either pan-seared or baked, allowing the glaze to caramelize and form a sticky, savory-sweet crust. The result is a delicate, flaky fish with a complex depth of flavor, offering the perfect balance of sweetness, heat, and umami.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salmon:

  • 4 salmon fillets (about 5–6 oz each, skin-on or skinless)

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for cooking)

For the Spicy Honey Garlic Glaze:

  • 3 tbsp honey

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1½ tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp sriracha (adjust to taste — 1 tsp for mild, 2 tbsp for spicy)

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice

  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional, for extra heat)

  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional, adds brightness)

To Garnish:

  • Chopped green onions or cilantro

  • Sesame seeds

  • Fresh lime wedges

Instructions

1. Prepare the salmon

  1. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels.

  2. Season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.

  3. (Optional) Let them rest at room temperature for 10–15 minutes for even cooking.

2. Make the spicy honey garlic glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together honey, garlic, soy sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar (or lemon juice), ginger, and chili flakes. Set aside.

3. Cook the salmon

Pan-Seared Method (best for caramelization):

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Add salmon fillets skin-side down and cook for 4–5 minutes, until skin is crispy and golden.

  3. Flip salmon, lower heat to medium, and pour the honey garlic glaze over.

  4. Cook another 3–4 minutes, spooning sauce over the fish as it thickens and becomes sticky.

  5. The salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork (internal temp: 125–130°F / 52–54°C for medium).

Oven Method (hands-free):

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Place seasoned salmon on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  3. Spoon the glaze over the top.

  4. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until salmon is cooked through and slightly caramelized at the edges.

  5. Broil for 1 minute at the end for a golden glaze.

4. Serve

  • Spoon the remaining glaze from the pan over the salmon.

  • Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and a squeeze of lime juice.

Serve with:

  • Steamed jasmine rice or coconut rice 🍚

  • Roasted broccoli or bok choy 🥦

  • A fresh cucumber salad for crunch 🥒

Notes

: Garnish the salmon fillets with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds for extra flavor. Serve alongside steamed rice or roasted vegetables, and drizzle any leftover spicy honey garlic sauce over the top for a deliciously sticky finish.
