Ingredients

1 tsp lemon zest
½ tsp vanilla extract
For Assembly
1 egg + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
1 tbsp coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions
1. Make the Crust
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add ice water 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing just until dough holds together.
Shape into a disk, wrap, and chill 30 minutes (or up to overnight).
2. Prepare the Filling
In a bowl, combine blueberries, half the strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, zest, and vanilla.
Toss gently until evenly coated.
3. Roll Out the Dough
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12-inch circle.
Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
4. Assemble the “Stars & Stripes”
