Ingredients
- 1 (16-ounce) package super-firm tofu, drained and patted dry
- 4 tbsp reduced-sodium soy sauce, divided
- ½ cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 tbsp green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- Press the tofu: Wrap tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it press for 10-15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Cut and coat: Slice tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss with 1 tbsp cornstarch to create a crispy coating.
- Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, ginger, garlic, and chili flakes.
- Cook tofu: Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add tofu cubes and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides (about 5-7 minutes).
- Thicken the sauce: Pour the sauce into the pan with tofu. Stir and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens and coats the tofu.
- Finish and serve: Drizzle with sesame oil, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve over rice or noodles.
