It’s often served with steamed rice or noodles, making it a complete and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
For the marinade:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine or dry sherry (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
For the stir-fry sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 tablespoon water to make slurry)
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef:
In a bowl, combine sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, Shaoxing wine, and sesame oil. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes. - Prepare Broccoli:
Steam or blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside. - Cook Beef:
Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned and just cooked through, about 2-3 minutes. Remove beef from the pan and set aside. - Cook Aromatics and Broccoli:
In the same pan, add remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Add garlic and ginger, stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add broccoli and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. - Combine and Sauce:
Return the beef to the pan. Stir together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and beef broth. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and broccoli. Stir well. - Thicken Sauce:
Add the cornstarch slurry, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 1 minute. - Serve:
Remove from heat and serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
