20 minute sticky sesame beef noodles

The Ultimate Guide to Making 20-Minute Sticky Sesame Beef Noodles

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

At its core, this dish is a quick-service stir fry that focuses heavily on texture and depth of flavor. The primary focus of the meal is the combination of savory beef and a velvety, sweet, and tangy sauce that thickens beautifully as it cooks. Unlike traditional noodle dishes that might rely on a light broth or a simple splash of soy sauce, this recipe aims for a heavy coating that ensures no bite is left dry. The starch in the sauce helps it glaze the meat and noodles, creating that iconic, glossy presentation often found in high-end Asian comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale

For the noodles

  • 8 oz (225 g) noodles (ramen, lo mein, or spaghetti work well)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

For the beef

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or thinly sliced steak
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

Sticky sesame sauce

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sriracha or chili garlic sauce (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water

Garnishes

  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Steamed broccoli or shredded carrots (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the noodles
    • Boil according to package directions.
    • Drain and toss with a little oil to prevent sticking.
  • Mix the sauce
    • Whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sriracha (if using), cornstarch, and water.
  • Cook the beef
    • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Cook the beef until browned, about 4–5 minutes.
    • Drain excess fat if needed.
    • Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Make it sticky
    • Pour in the sauce.
    • Stir for 1–2 minutes until it thickens and coats the beef.
  • Combine
    • Add the cooked noodles and toss until evenly coated.
    • If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of water.
  • Serve
    • Top with green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
    • Add steamed broccoli or carrots for extra vegetables if desired.
