Description

Air Fryer Chicken Katsu Bites are bite-sized pieces of juicy chicken seasoned to perfection, coated in light and airy panko breadcrumbs, and air-fried until brilliantly golden and crispy. Traditional chicken katsu is a beloved Japanese dish featuring a boneless chicken cutlet that is dredged in flour, dipped in beaten egg, covered in Japanese panko breadcrumbs, and deep-fried in a vat of hot oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Cooking spray or a little oil

For the dipping sauce

  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp honey or sugar
  • Optional: ½ tsp grated ginger

Instructions

  • Cut the chicken:
Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces, about 3–4 cm each. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • Season:
Mix the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Sprinkle over the chicken.
  • Set up the coating:
Put flour in one bowl, beaten egg in a second, and panko breadcrumbs in a third.
  • Coat the chicken:
Dip each piece into flour, then egg, then panko. Press the breadcrumbs gently onto the chicken so they stick well.
  • Preheat the air fryer:
Heat to 200°C (400°F) for about 3 minutes.
  • Air fry:
Lightly spray the basket and arrange the chicken in a single layer, leaving space between pieces. Lightly spray the tops with oil.
Air fry at 200°C (400°F) for 10–14 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and the chicken reaches 74°C (165°F) internally.
  • Make the sauce:
Mix all the sauce ingredients together. Taste and adjust the sweetness or saltiness to your liking.
  • Serve:
Serve the crispy katsu bites immediately with the dipping sauce.

Notes

These Air Fryer Chicken Katsu Bites are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and so easy to make! They’re perfect for a quick lunch, family dinner, or party appetizer. Serve them with katsu sauce, mayonnaise, or your favorite dipping sauce for an extra delicious bite.
