Ingredients

- 2 green plantains (firm and unripe)
- 1½–2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt, plus more to taste
- Optional: ½ tsp garlic powder
- Optional: lime juice or fresh garlic for serving
Instructions
- Peel the plantains
Cut off both ends. Make a shallow slit lengthwise through the skin and peel it away. - Slice
Cut plantains into pieces about 1 inch thick. - First air-fry
Toss with about 1 tbsp oil. Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer.
Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, turning halfway through. - Flatten
Remove the pieces and gently smash each one with the bottom of a glass, mug, or tostone press until they’re about ¼ inch thick. - Season & second fry
Brush or toss the flattened plantains with the remaining oil and sprinkle with salt (and garlic powder if using). - Crisp them up
Return to the air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 5–8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy around the edges. - Serve immediately
Sprinkle with a little extra salt and serve hot.
