Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Ginger Salmon Bowls

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 bowls 1x

Description

This recipe is a modern power bowl. It focuses heavily on deep nutrition. It is built around high-quality protein. It uses whole grains and crisp produce. The star of the dish is tender salmon. The fish marinates in a warm spice blend. Bright turmeric joins zingy ginger and fragrant garlic. Fresh citrus finishes the marinade.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Turmeric Ginger Salmon

  • 600 g salmon fillets, skin removed if desired
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika, optional

For the Bowls

  • 3 cups cooked brown or white rice
  • 1 cup cucumber, diced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • ½ cup edamame, cooked
  • ¼ cup fresh coriander or parsley, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Creamy Ginger Yogurt Sauce

  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 small garlic clove, finely grated
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp water, as needed
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Salmon Marinade

Place the salmon fillets in a bowl or shallow dish.

Add olive oil, turmeric, grated ginger, garlic, lemon juice, honey or maple syrup, black pepper, salt, and smoked paprika.

Gently rub the mixture over the salmon, making sure each piece is well coated.

Allow the salmon to marinate for about 15 minutes. Avoid leaving it in the lemon juice for too long, as the acidity can affect the texture.

2. Prepare the Yogurt Sauce

While the salmon marinates, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, ginger, turmeric, garlic, honey or maple syrup, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.

Add a little water and whisk until the sauce reaches a smooth, drizzleable consistency.

Taste and adjust the seasoning. Add more lemon for brightness or a little extra honey for sweetness.

3. Cook the Salmon

Preheat a skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of olive oil.

Place the salmon in the skillet and cook for approximately 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness.

The salmon should be opaque and flake easily with a fork. For food safety, cook salmon to an internal temperature of 63°C (145°F).

Alternatively, bake the salmon in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for approximately 12–15 minutes.

Allow the salmon to rest for a couple of minutes, then gently flake it into large pieces.

4. Prepare the Bowl Ingredients

While the salmon cooks, prepare your vegetables.

Dice the cucumber, shred the carrots, slice the red cabbage, and cut the avocado.

Warm the edamame according to the package directions if using frozen edamame.

You can serve the vegetables raw for extra crunch, or lightly sauté the cabbage and carrots if you prefer softer vegetables.

5. Assemble the Salmon Bowls

Divide the cooked rice between four bowls.

Arrange the cucumber, carrots, red cabbage, edamame, and avocado around the rice.

Add generous portions of the turmeric ginger salmon.

Drizzle with the creamy ginger yogurt sauce.

Finish with chopped coriander or parsley, sesame seeds, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Notes

Turmeric and ginger are commonly included in balanced, anti-inflammatory eating patterns, but this recipe should be viewed as a nutritious meal rather than a treatment for inflammation or any medical condition.
