The Ultimate Guide to Beef Pepperoni and Hot Honey Pizza Pinwheels

  • Author: David Andersson

Description

To put it plainly, this dish is a creative, bite-sized reinvention of traditional Italian-American pizza craftsmanship. Instead of baking your ingredients flat on a round stone, you roll a thin layer of yeast dough, savory tomato sauce, rich cheese, and premium beef pepperoni into a tightly wrapped cylinder before slicing it into individual portions. This specific method ensures that every single piece contains a perfectly uniform distribution of meat, sauce, and cheese, wrapped in an elegant spiral pattern.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 1 lb (450 g) pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for rolling)

For the Filling

  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2024 slices beef pepperoni
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Hot Honey

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp apple cider vinegar

For Brushing

  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • In a small saucepan, gently warm the honey with the red pepper flakes and apple cider vinegar for 2–3 minutes. Set aside to infuse.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a rectangle about 10 × 14 inches (25 × 35 cm).
  • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
  • Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the sauce, then arrange the beef pepperoni slices evenly on top.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using.
  • Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seam closed.
  • Slice the log into 10–12 equal pinwheels and place them cut-side up on the prepared baking tray.
  • Brush the tops with melted butter mixed with garlic powder.
  • Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes, then drizzle generously with the warm hot honey.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Store leftover pinwheels in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for a few minutes to restore their crispy edges and gooey cheese.
