Chicken Tikka Naan Pizza

Chicken Tikka Naan Pizza

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 2 naan pizzas 1x
  • Diet: Halal

Description

This recipe is a clever fusion of South Asian tandoori street food and traditional pizza. It replaces standard dough with soft Indian flatbread known as naan. The thick bread provides a solid base that holds heavy toppings easily. It stays crisp on the bottom without absorbing too much liquid or getting soggy.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Tikka

  • 300 g boneless chicken breast or thighs, cut into small pieces
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Pizza

  • 2 large naan breads
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 12 tbsp sliced jalapeños, optional
  • 1 tbsp melted butter or olive oil

Instructions

  • Marinate the chicken:
In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, garam masala, paprika, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, garlic, ginger, and salt. Add the chicken and mix well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Cook the chicken:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Cut into smaller pieces if necessary.
  • Prepare the naan:
Preheat the oven to 220°C / 425°F. Place the naan breads on a baking sheet and lightly brush the edges with melted butter or olive oil.
  • Build the pizzas:
Spread pizza sauce over each naan. Add mozzarella cheese, cooked chicken tikka, red onion, bell pepper, and jalapeños.
  • Bake:
Bake for 8–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the naan edges are golden and crisp.
  • Garnish and serve:
Sprinkle with fresh cilantro. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

For the best results, use naan that is slightly thick and sturdy enough to hold the toppings. You can also prepare the chicken tikka ahead of time, making this pizza a quick and easy weeknight meal.
