Description

Churro Bread Pudding is a dessert that combines two of the most beloved treats: churros and bread pudding. The base of the pudding is made from cubed, day-old bread soaked in a delicious, spiced custard mixture of eggs, milk, cream, cinnamon, and sugars. Once baked, the pudding has a soft and creamy texture, with golden, crispy edges that are perfect for a churro topping of cinnamon and sugar. The result? A sweet, indulgent dessert that’s both comforting and exciting.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, or challah work great)

  • 4 large eggs

  • 2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for richer pudding)

  • ½ cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Churro Topping:

  • ¼ cup butter, melted

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional Drizzle:

  • Caramel sauce, dulce de leche, or chocolate sauce

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  3. Place the cubed bread evenly in the dish.

2. Make the Custard

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until smooth.

  2. Pour evenly over the bread cubes, pressing lightly so all pieces soak up the mixture.

  3. Let sit for 10–15 minutes to absorb the liquid.

3. Bake

  • Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is just set (a little soft is okay — it will firm as it cools).

4. Add the Churro Topping

  1. Brush the warm bread pudding with melted butter.

  2. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon together.

  3. Sprinkle the mixture generously over the top for that signature churro crunch and sweetness.

5. Serve

  • Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel, dulce de leche, or chocolate sauce.

  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you’re feeling extra indulgent 🍨.

Notes

Drizzle your churro bread pudding with cinnamon sugar glaze or caramel sauce for extra indulgence. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it an irresistible dessert!
