Description
Churro Bread Pudding is a dessert that combines two of the most beloved treats: churros and bread pudding. The base of the pudding is made from cubed, day-old bread soaked in a delicious, spiced custard mixture of eggs, milk, cream, cinnamon, and sugars. Once baked, the pudding has a soft and creamy texture, with golden, crispy edges that are perfect for a churro topping of cinnamon and sugar. The result? A sweet, indulgent dessert that’s both comforting and exciting.
Ingredients
For the Bread Pudding:
-
6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, or challah work great)
-
4 large eggs
-
2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for richer pudding)
-
½ cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
½ cup brown sugar
-
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
¼ teaspoon salt
For the Churro Topping:
-
¼ cup butter, melted
-
¼ cup sugar
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Optional Drizzle:
-
Caramel sauce, dulce de leche, or chocolate sauce
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Place the cubed bread evenly in the dish.
2. Make the Custard
-
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
-
Pour evenly over the bread cubes, pressing lightly so all pieces soak up the mixture.
-
Let sit for 10–15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
3. Bake
-
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is just set (a little soft is okay — it will firm as it cools).
4. Add the Churro Topping
-
Brush the warm bread pudding with melted butter.
-
In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon together.
-
Sprinkle the mixture generously over the top for that signature churro crunch and sweetness.
5. Serve
-
Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel, dulce de leche, or chocolate sauce.
-
Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you’re feeling extra indulgent 🍨.
Notes
Drizzle your churro bread pudding with cinnamon sugar glaze or caramel sauce for extra indulgence. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it an irresistible dessert!
