Description
A creamy dill dip with veggie Christmas tree is a festive holiday appetizer. It combines a rich cold dipping sauce with a creative vegetable platter arranged like a decorated tree. The main component of the dish is a smooth, velvety dip crafted from sour cream and mayonnaise. Freshly chopped dill weed gives the sauce its signature grassy, bright quality. Fresh lemon juice adds a crisp splash of acidity to cut through the rich dairy. Simple seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper tie everything together into a savory spread.
Ingredients
For the creamy dill dip
-
1 cup sour cream
-
½ cup mayonnaise
-
2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried dill)
-
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
½ teaspoon onion powder
-
¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
For the veggie Christmas tree
-
1 large head of broccoli, cut into small florets
-
1 cucumber, sliced into rounds or sticks
-
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
-
1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips
-
1 cup cherry tomatoes
-
1–2 carrots, cut into sticks
-
1 yellow bell pepper star, cut with a small star-shaped cutter (optional)
Instructions
1. Make the dip. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, dill, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
2. Chill. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors blend.
3. Prepare the vegetables. Wash and dry all the vegetables thoroughly. Cut them into bite-sized pieces suitable for dipping.
4. Arrange the Christmas tree. On a large serving platter, arrange the broccoli florets in a triangular tree shape, starting with a wide base and narrowing toward the top.
5. Decorate the tree. Add cherry tomatoes and red and yellow bell pepper pieces as ornaments. Arrange cucumber slices and carrot sticks around the tree for extra color.
6. Add the star and trunk. Place the yellow pepper star at the top. Use carrot sticks or cucumber pieces to create the tree trunk.
7. Serve. Spoon the creamy dill dip into a small bowl and place it beside the vegetable tree. Serve chilled.
