Description
This specific Crème Brûlée French Toast recipe is a baked version of the traditional stovetop dish. Unlike standard French toast where you dip and fry each slice individually, this method involves soaking the bread in a rich egg and cream mixture over a pre-prepared caramel base. The entire assembly is then baked in the oven.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4–6 slices thick bread (brioche or challah works best)
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk or cream
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp butter
For caramel base:
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- In a pan, melt butter and brown sugar until smooth and bubbly. Pour into a baking dish.
- Arrange bread slices over the caramel layer.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk/cream, sugar, and vanilla.
- Pour mixture evenly over the bread. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best results).
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes until golden and set.
- Let it cool slightly, then flip to reveal the caramelized top.
- Serve warm.
