Description
At its core, a deviled eggs with paprika holly leaves recipe is a classic cold stuffed egg appetizer dressed up with winter holiday garnish. The word deviled in culinary history refers to dishes prepared with zesty seasonings like mustard, pepper, and vinegar. In this holiday presentation, the rich yolk filling serves as a sturdy cushion. It holds delicate parsley sprigs shaped like holly leaves alongside tiny pepper berries.
Ingredients
-
6 large eggs
-
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
-
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
-
1 teaspoon white vinegar or lemon juice
-
¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
-
⅛ teaspoon black pepper
-
½ teaspoon paprika, plus extra for garnish
-
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
-
2–3 small fresh parsley sprigs for holly leaves
-
6–8 small pieces of red bell pepper, cut into tiny berry shapes (optional)
Instructions
1. Boil the eggs. Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10–12 minutes.
2. Cool the eggs. Transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water and let them cool for about 10–15 minutes. Peel carefully.
3. Halve the eggs. Slice each egg lengthwise. Gently remove the yolks and place them in a small mixing bowl. Arrange the egg white halves on a serving platter.
4. Prepare the filling. Mash the yolks with a fork until fine and crumbly. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, vinegar or lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and ½ teaspoon paprika. Mix until smooth and creamy.
5. Fill the egg whites. Spoon the yolk mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip, or use a small spoon. Pipe or spoon the filling evenly into each egg white half.
6. Add the paprika decoration. Lightly sprinkle paprika over the filling to create a festive red-orange color.
7. Create the holly leaves. Place small parsley leaves or tiny parsley sprigs beside the filling on each egg half. Add two or three tiny red bell pepper pieces near the leaves to resemble holly berries.
8. Chill and serve. Refrigerate the deviled eggs for at least 15–20 minutes before serving so the filling firms up and the flavors blend.
