Double Chocolate Chip Fudge Brownies

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 45 minutes

Description

These double chocolate chip fudge brownies are rich, baked dessert squares made by combining dark cocoa powder with melted butter, eggs, sugar, flour, and two distinct varieties of chocolate chips. Unlike cakey brownies that rely on chemical leaveners like baking powder or baking soda for airiness, fudgy brownies maintain a dense, compact crumb structure.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (75 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (175 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup (90 g) milk or dark chocolate chips, plus extra for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  • Mix the butter and sugars: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla: Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Mix until glossy and well combined.
  • Combine the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Make the batter: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Do not overmix.
  • Add the chocolate chips: Fold in the semi-sweet and milk or dark chocolate chips.
  • Bake: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Sprinkle additional chocolate chips over the top if desired. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool completely: Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 30–45 minutes before cutting. For extra-fudgy brownies, refrigerate them before slicing.
  • Serve: Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

For the fudgiest texture, avoid overbaking the brownies. Let them cool completely before slicing, as they continue to set as they cool. You can also add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
