Easy Baked Ravioli with Marinara Sauce Recipe

  • Author: David Andersson
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

At its heart, Baked Ravioli with Marinara Sauce is a comforting baked pasta casserole that fuses the simplicity of store-bought or homemade stuffed pasta with the rich, bubbling splendor of traditional Italian-American baking. Instead of simply boiling pasta and tossing it with sauce, this preparation method layers tender ravioli filled with creamy cheese, spinach, or savory meats with a fragrant tomato sauce and substantial amounts of freshly shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

Scale

For the ravioli bake

  • 700 g cheese or spinach ravioli, fresh or refrigerated

  • 3 cups (700 ml) marinara sauce

  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • ½ tsp dried oregano

  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Lightly grease a 9 × 13-inch baking dish with a little olive oil.

Step 2: Prepare the ravioli

If using fresh or refrigerated ravioli, follow the package instructions. If the ravioli is designed to be cooked directly in sauce, you can skip boiling it. For frozen ravioli, check the package directions and adjust the baking time as needed.

Step 3: Prepare the marinara sauce

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30–60 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, oregano, red pepper flakes, and a little black pepper. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.

Step 4: Assemble the casserole

Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange half of the ravioli in an even layer, then cover with half of the remaining sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese.

Repeat with the remaining ravioli, sauce, and mozzarella. Finish by sprinkling the Parmesan cheese over the top.

Step 5: Bake

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbling, and lightly golden and the ravioli is tender.

If you want a more golden cheese topping, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end, watching carefully.

Step 6: Rest and serve

Let the baked ravioli rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or chopped parsley and serve warm.
