Description
The Christmas Eton Mess is a festive, holiday-inspired interpretation of the celebrated traditional English dessert. At its core, this sweet dish features three simple components: crunchy broken meringue pieces, softly whipped vanilla cream, and fresh tart berries.
Ingredients
For the Eton Mess
-
400 g fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
-
300 ml cold heavy whipping cream
-
2 tbsp icing sugar, or to taste
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
100–120 g ready-made meringue nests, roughly crushed
For the Christmas twist
-
100 g fresh raspberries, optional
-
2 tbsp strawberry or raspberry sauce, optional
-
White chocolate shavings, for garnish
-
Fresh mint leaves, optional
-
Red and green Christmas sprinkles, optional
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the fruit
Wash and dry the strawberries thoroughly. Remove the stems and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Reserve a few attractive pieces for decorating. If using raspberries, keep some whole for the topping.
Step 2: Whip the cream
Pour the cold whipping cream into a large mixing bowl. Add the icing sugar and vanilla extract. Whip with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. The cream should be fluffy and hold its shape without becoming stiff or grainy.
Step 3: Crush the meringues
Break the meringue nests into bite-sized pieces. Keep some larger chunks for texture and crush the rest into smaller pieces.
Step 4: Combine the ingredients
Gently fold most of the chopped strawberries and raspberries into the whipped cream. Add the crushed meringues and fold lightly until everything is just combined. Avoid overmixing so the meringue stays crunchy.
Step 5: Assemble the dessert
Spoon the mixture into individual dessert glasses, small jars, or a large serving bowl. For a festive layered look, alternate the cream mixture with extra berries and a drizzle of strawberry sauce.
Step 6: Decorate and serve
Top with the reserved fruit, extra meringue pieces, white chocolate shavings, and a few mint leaves or Christmas sprinkles. Serve immediately for the best contrast between the crunchy meringue and soft cream.
Notes
Serve Christmas Eton Mess in clear glasses or little dessert jars to show off the beautiful white cream and bright red berries. Finish with white chocolate curls and a sprig of mint for a simple yet elegant Christmas dessert.
