Description
To understand the grinder salad sandwich rolls, we first have to look at the term “grinder” itself. In many parts of the United States, particularly the Northeast, a grinder is simply another name for a sub, hoagie, or hero. The name supposedly comes from the fact that the bread was often so crusty and tough that you had to “grind” your teeth to get through it. Modern versions, however, favor a softer roll that can absorb the delicious juices of the filling without falling apart.
