To put it simply, a pizza bomb is an ingenious twist on stuffed bread that packs a punch of Italian-inspired flavors into a handheld roll. Instead of spreading toppings across a flat crust where cheese can easily slide off, a pizza bomb seals the ingredients tightly inside the dough before baking. This structure allows the interior ingredients to steam and melt together beautifully, trapping all the juices and rich aromas inside the bread. Ingredients
For the Dough
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp instant yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup warm milk or water
For the Filling
- 250 g halal ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp oregano
- ½ tsp basil
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- ½ cup thick pizza sauce
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, cubed or shredded
- Optional: diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or halal beef pepperoni
Garlic Butter Topping
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ tsp mixed Italian herbs
- 1 tbsp grated Parmesan (optional)
Instructions
1. Make the Dough
- Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Beef Filling
- Heat olive oil in a pan.
- Cook onion until softened.
- Add garlic and halal beef.
- Season with oregano, basil, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Cook until browned.
- Stir in a few tablespoons of pizza sauce and let cool.
3. Assemble the Bread Bombs
- Divide dough into 12 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece into a small circle.
- Add:
- 1 tsp pizza sauce
- 1 tbsp beef mixture
- A cube of mozzarella
- Pinch edges tightly and roll into a ball.
4. Bake
- Place seam-side down on a lined baking tray.
- Brush with garlic butter.
- Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
5. Finish
Brush with remaining garlic butter and sprinkle with herbs and Parmesan.
