Description
To understand why this dessert works so exceptionally well, it helps to break down its two core components and see how their distinct textures and flavor profiles interact.
Ingredients
For the Dark Chocolate Mousse
- 7 oz (200 g) dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream, divided
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
For the Halva Layer
- 7 oz (200 g) plain sesame halva, crumbled
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp chopped pistachios
For Garnish
- Extra crumbled halva
- Dark chocolate shavings
- Chopped pistachios
- Toasted sesame seeds
- Fresh mint leaves (optional)
Instructions
Heat ½ cup of the heavy cream until just steaming. Pour it over the chopped dark chocolate and butter. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Add the vanilla extract and sea salt. Cool to room temperature.
Whip the remaining ½ cup heavy cream with the powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture in three additions until smooth and airy. Avoid overmixing to keep the mousse light.
Divide a layer of crumbled halva among six serving glasses.
Spoon or pipe a layer of chocolate mousse over the halva.
Repeat the layers, finishing with mousse on top.
Top each cup with extra crumbled halva, chocolate shavings, chopped pistachios, and toasted sesame seeds.
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, until the mousse is fully set.
Serve chilled, garnished with a fresh mint leaf if desired.
