Ultimate Guide to Santa’s Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

Description

The legendary Santa’s Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe is a timeless holiday variation of the classic American chocolate chip cookie, specifically crafted to deliver maximum tenderness and rich flavor. Unlike thin, crispy wafers that crumble easily, these festive cookies rely on a balanced ratio of brown sugar to granulated sugar, ensuring a moist, caramel-like interior surrounded by a delicately crisp perimeter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2¼ cups (280 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup (150 g) packed brown sugar

  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1½ cups (255 g) semisweet chocolate chips

  • ½ cup (85 g) milk chocolate chips, optional

  • Flaky sea salt, optional, for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the oven

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2: Combine the dry ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined. Set aside.

Step 3: Cream the butter and sugars

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.

Step 4: Add the eggs and vanilla

Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until smooth.

Step 5: Make the cookie dough

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix on low speed or stir with a spatula until just combined. Avoid overmixing. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Step 6: Chill the dough

Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Chilling helps prevent excessive spreading and develops a richer cookie flavor.

Step 7: Shape the cookies

Scoop approximately 1½ tablespoons of dough for each cookie. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between them.

Step 8: Bake

Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers still look slightly soft. Do not wait for the centers to become completely firm, as the cookies will continue to set while cooling.

Step 9: Cool and decorate

Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Sprinkle with a little flaky sea salt if desired.

Notes

Arrange the cookies on a festive platter with a glass of cold milk, or place a few in a decorative holiday tin tied with a red ribbon. They’re a wonderful homemade treat for Santa, holiday parties, cookie exchanges, and Christmas gifting.
