Description
At its most fundamental level, a tater tot casserole with ground beef is a layered dish consisting of a savory meat base, a creamy binding sauce, and a crown of crispy potato cylinders. It is often referred to as a “hotdish” in certain regions, particularly in the Upper Midwest of the United States. The beauty of this recipe lies in its architecture. You have the soft, savory ground beef at the bottom, which absorbs the flavors of the aromatic vegetables and the cream-based soup. On top, you have the architectural marvel of the frozen potato tots, which provide a necessary crunch to contrast the creamy interior.
